Inclement Weather

During the winter months, inclement weather can result in unexpected changes in school operations and schedules.  If snow and/or ice are evident or expected on any morning, district officials will attempt to make a decision by 6:00 a.m.  As soon as a decision is made, information is made available to district employees, students, and parents in several ways:  ParentLink, district and school websites, and local radio and television stations.

In the event that snow, ice or other adverse weather conditions materialize during the school day, district and local school officials will monitor conditions closely.  If dismissing schools early becomes necessary, the decision will be sent through ParentLink messages. Information will be posted on websites and broadcast on radio and television stations.

When school is dismissed early or cancelled because of inclement weather, all extracurricular activities, meetings, practices, night classes, etc. will be cancelled unless specifically approved by the superintendent.

4K morning classes will not operate when there is any delay.  4K afternoon classes will operate on a normal schedule when there is a delayed opening of schools.

The district is a county-wide system serving all of Pickens County with its varied terrain.  The weather may seem fine in one area, while other areas are becoming hazardous.  Our number one priority in making a decision to close schools will always be student safety.
Alerts and Messages through ParentLink

Through ParentLink, our parent communication system, we will notify parents by telephone and email to provide information.  Because the system uses contact information in our PowerSchool student database, parents should always make sure that the school has correct contact information and should notify the school immediately with changes.

Text Messages through ParentLink

Parents may also receive text messages to notify them of school closings. To receive a text message announcement, fill out the ParentLink Text Messaging Permission form from the Students & Parents page in  Forms & Publications on the SDPC website. Submit the completed form to your student's school.
